MON-ART – The Monasteries of Art

Public art as a mean to enable new green and sustainable lifestyles

Cinque paesi, sei monasteri.

MON-ART reinterprets, in a secular key, the monastery as a place where knowledge is kept and renewed. The project builds a European network of “Monasteries of Art”: historical and cultural sites reactivated through artist residencies and participatory practices, where sustainability means deep transformation rather than a façade. At its heart is the artist of regeneration, who lives the place, follows its rhythms and works with local communities to start creative processes that continue beyond the residency. Five countries, six monasteries.

Le residenze a Parma · The Parma residencies

In Italy, MON-ART’s monastery is the Valserena Abbey, home of CSAC, the Centre for Communication Studies and Archives of the University of Parma. Resident artists work in the San Leonardo neighbourhood around the former Bormioli glassworks, through participatory practices with long-time residents, former workers and new communities.
