Due voci per San Leonardo

IT

Two Voices for San Leonardo

The MON-ART artist residencies in Parma have their artists. An international call drew applications from a wide range of practices and languages, and from these the panel chose two resident artists, judging each proposal on its own strength and on how it answered to the place: Massimo Blu Pellerani Magni and Aldo Scarpitta.

Talent alone was never going to settle it. A MON-ART residency isn’t about making a work for a place — it’s about working with one. That place is San Leonardo, a neighbourhood that still carries the memory of the Bormioli glassworks, with everything the years have since laid over it. So just as much hung on the ability to build relationships, a genuine readiness to listen, and a way of working that takes the community as part of the work, not its audience.

Massimo Blu Pellerani Magni is a visual artist who works with geometry as a language and the image as a place of encounter. His project, The Faces of San Leonardo, is participatory photography and portraiture, made slowly and from within.

Aldo Scarpitta is a sound artist and designer of site-specific experiences who cultivates listening as a practice of knowledge and care. His project, Dense Between, begins with a plain question: when a factory goes quiet, what is left to hear?

Each residency lasts six months, with time spent in Parma and a public event at the close to share what has come of it. What happens next is the part no one can plan on paper, and the part that counts most: the months in which these projects, still just ideas today, meet the neighbourhood and let it change them.

It’s work measured not by the finished piece but by what grows up around it. See you in the autumn, when the artists arrive in San Leonardo and the residency truly begins.
